The city of Montclair, is located in the Pomona Valley in the Southwestern part of California, in San Bernardino County. The Pomona Valley is included in the Inland Empire Region in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Its population was estimated to be at 36,664 in the 2010 US Census.
The Serrano Indians were the earliest residents of this area. The Serrano built their village along a creek named Arroyo de losAlisos, now called San Antonio Creek, which flowed along a route that is now Mills Avenue, the western border of the city.
In 1897 the Township of Marquette was brought up in the area now called Montclair. In 1900 a tract of land known as Monte Vista was developed. In the first half of the 20th century the area was occupied with citrus orchards. Monte Vista enjoyed substantial growth after World War II ended. The area was later incorporated as a city in 1956. The city was given a new name, Montclair. This was in response to the Post Office refuting the city a local office due to a name conflict with a community situated in Northern California.
Attractions in the area
One of the most popular destinations in the city is the Montclair Plaza. It is a popular shopping destination for the locals. Furthermore, the Reeder Ranch and its family home offers visitors and school children an insight into the areas citrus heritage.
Individuals who find pleasure in art can visit the museums in the area. The institutions include the Air Museum Planes of Fame, Ontario Museum of History & Art, NHRA Motorsports Museum and the American Museum of Ceramic Arts which is located nearby.
Montclair – Fun Activities
The city of Montclair provides the Scandia Amusement Park, the raging waters and the Glen Ivy Hot Springs. The famous Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are a short drive away from the area.
Large water bodies such as the Lake Elsinore and Lake Arrowhead are popular for outdoor activities and are close by.
Also, the Cucamonga – Gusti Regional Park and Frank G. Bonelli Regional County Park are prominent regional destinations.
The San Bernardino National Forest is popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Los Angeles, Universal Studios and the Temecula Valley Wine country are only an hour away from the city. Palm Springs, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Six Flags Magic Mountain are approximately an hour and a half from Montclair.
Transportation in the area
Air travel is afforded at the nearby Ontario International Airport. The road network is also in good shape, connecting to other regions.
Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, University of La Verne, Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College and Chaffey Community College are located in the area.
The racial combination of Montclair was 19,337 (52.7%) White (14.4% Non-Hispanic White), 1,908 (5.2%) African American, 434 (1.2%) Native American, 3,425 (9.3%) Asian, 74 (0.2%) Pacific Islander, 9,882 (27.0%) from other races, and 1,604 (4.4%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 25,744 persons (70.2%).
